Richard Vasquez
The Health Worker
The life of a nurse is not always the same everyday, the stress, the risk and the responsibility are already attached on their shoulders.
“As I wake up everyday, I always ponder on what‘s waiting for me at work? Are things getting better or something worse will happen? Everyday is a surprise, no one can tell what‘s about to happen.” says our #TEAMSUPER Richard.
Richard was a hospital nurse in one of the biggest medical centers in the country before flying off to Germany to work abroad. The opportunity was there and he had to grab it to help his family. For two years now, he had to endure being far from the people that he loves to serve other people. And in times like this, his spirit is always being tried and tested.

“Taking care of the sick and the elderly people is one of the most challenging job. They always remind me of my parents. With what‘s happening right now, the elderly people are at the most and severely affected.” says Richard.
Luckily for our health worker, he doesn‘t have a case or patient that has been infected by the virus. He’s hoping that despite the risk, he will still be able to help and serve his patients.
“The challenge is also high for us, because we have to maintain the zero affected. We have lots of new protocols to ensure the safety at workplace. The hazard is that no one knows how or when it will come. Everyday I make lot of contact with a lot of people, the hazard is we don’t know who are infected or uninfected before hand.” says Richard.

For our health worker, being a nurse is a calling. Richard is passionate about his job. He loves taking care of other people. This is the great fulfillment that he gets from his work. “They depend their lives and health on me. It is a big responsibility that God has entrusted me. “ answers Richard.
As of this writing, the novel coronavirus has reached more than 1.5 Million cases around the globe with 88,000 death. Confirmed people that have so far recovered has already reached 328,000. It’s still a long way before we see the end of the pandemic and for Richard, aside from being physically protected, prayer has always been his guiding light with all the challenges that he face daily.

“I pray for all those who passed away and the millions who are affected. Because of the pandemic, we developed a stronger spiritual connection to God, by continuously praying not only for ourselves but also for the entire world.” says Richard.
Richard believes that because of social media, we became more careful and informative about the situation around us. We became more aware about the issue and on how to take good care of ourselves and other people. “The silver lining is that people got more time to bond with their families. They learned new hobbies. Our environment was able to regenerate because of less pollution. There is hope.”

His final message to everyone at home... “Just spend your time with your family. Let‘s protect and take care of each other by staying at home and by following the protocols of the government. Let the frontliners do their job. Remember you have the privelege to stay at home while others have to face and fight against the virus.” ends Richard.
